DARTMOUTH MAYFLOWER

1 INCREASED VISIBILITY While Dartmouth is already

firmly on the tourism destination map, Mayflower 400 will undoubtedly generate huge media interest. This will only increase as the event draws closer, meaning that Dartmouth and your business starts to be seen by more and more people.

2MORE CUSTOMERS The increased visibility will

increase visitor football to the town. In addition to British visitors, we know there are over 25 million American citizens who can directly trace their ancestry back to the Mayflower, many of which will use the Mayflower 400 celebrations as a reason to make the journey to Dartmouth. These are your potential customers.

3NEW AUDIENCE Following on from above,

many of these people will not have been to Dartmouth before so will be immersing themselves in a completely new experience. This is your opportunity to make sure you are seen as an integral business in the town and recognised as part of the ‘story’ by these new visitors.

Mayflower 400 is the commemoration of the sailing of The Mayflower to the New World, in 1620, an extremely significant event in history for both the United Kingdom and the United States of America. In conjunction with 12 other towns and cities across the UK, Dartmouth Mayflower has a number of ambitious Projects and Events planned during 2020.

CALLING ALL DARTMOUTH BUSINESS OWNERS! C

ommemorations start in November 2019, planning for the Mayflower 400 celebrations are already in full swing and we wanted to make sure you and your business didn’t miss the boat (so to speak!). Mayflower 400 is really exciting as an event for Dartmouth, as in addition to the many events planned,

there will be a spotlight on the town, substantial media interest and increased visitor footfall. So it goes without saying that your involvement in this event, from a commercial perspective, can only be beneficial and we wanted to share a few ideas of how you can be involved and reap the benefits of the event and beyond. This is a unique opportunity for all Dartmouth businesses to take advantage of the additional marketing

profile being given to this historic commemoration, which will undoubtedly attract interest both nationally and internationally. Don’t miss the boat and fail to grab your slice of the action!

Here are our 7 ways we think you can benefit as a small business in Dartmouth: Brixham trawler, Pilgrim

4INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES

With a number of events and initiatives being planned you have an amazing opportunity to offer a product or service linking in with the celebrations. Now is the time to think and plan. What could your business offer that would be of interest to those visitors coming to the town.

5 BENEFIT FROM PEOPLE

COMING INTO TOWN TO USE YOU While the media organisations are focusing on bringing people into town, you have to do your bit to encourage visitors to use your business. This could be in the form of a time limited ‘Mayflower’ offer or maybe a ‘Mayflower’ special. Remember, visitors are wanting to soak up all the celebration atmosphere and you can very much add to that.

6THE MAYFLOWER 400 EXHIBITION

The Mayflower 400 Exhibition in The Box, Plymouth, will run for 18 months, so what that means for you is that you have an extended period of time in which to capitalise on the extra visitor interest this will bring.

7BEYOND 2020

This is really exciting, as it means your efforts will be rewarded over a long period of time.

Mayflower 400 is time limited

but the benefits are much more far reaching and whatever you plan and put in place now for the event, can very much carry forward into the future and by making a good impression on the new visitors, you are giving them great reasons to remember you, your business and Dartmouth and return again and again.

SO WHAT NOW? It’s simple…
