New for 2019 - The Fizz Boat comes to Dartmouth... F

or a couple of months now we’ve been hearing about The Fizz Boat, launching in

Dartmouth in 2019, so we thought it was time to find out more about it and the people behind it. By The Dart met up with David and Gaynor Ramsden to ask them a few questions and hear all about their plans.

So, tell us all about The Fizz Boat idea? The Fizz Boat idea has been sim- mering for several years, we love fizz, we love Dartmouth, we love boats so put it all together and you have The Fizz Boat. Simple really.

What brought you to Dartmouth? We have a long, fond history with Dartmouth. I (David ) started my working life as a Royal Naval Officer under training at BRNC and later as a Staff Officer there, onboard HMS Sandpiper. Gaynor and I were married in

Dartmouth at The Dart Marina Hotel during Regatta 2008 and enjoyed the rest of the day cruising on the river with family and friends and since then have been back to Dart- mouth 3, 4 or more times each year. Dartmouth is addictive and we

promised ourselves that one day we would live in Dartmouth and have a boating business on the river… and so here we are!

So how does The Fizz Boat work? Our boat ‘Vivere’ (latin ‘to live’) is a modern, purpose built motor cruiser, almost 29ft long and brand

new to the River Dart. The boat will be for exclusive

hire for between 2 - 12 guests. It’s actually capable of seating more, so there’s plenty of room and comfort for all. It’s heated and with a canopy that can be totally enclosed or opened up depending on the weather. As you have probably gathered,

we love to pop corks and so will be serving a fabulous selection of fizz including Prosecco, Cava and Champagne. We are also excited to be flying the flag for English sparkling wines having selected Sharpham Wines as our English Fizz of choice on board.

“We are inspired by making memories. It sounds cheesy but really that’s it.”

We will even be serving a cider

from Bellhayes, another local supplier, which is made using the traditional Champagne method so a perfect fit for us. Of course no cruise would be

complete without delicious food and again the emphasis for us is about sharing, with a range of delicious platters loaded with local and international favourites. We even have a cake sharing board for those with a super sweet tooth!

What inspires you? We are inspired by making memories. It sounds cheesy but really that’s it. We made a decision a long time ago that we had accumulated enough ‘stuff’ in our lives and we shifted the focus

so that, at every opportunity, we dedicated ourselves instead to creating memories! That’s what we are carrying through to The Fizz Boat. It’s fair to say David and I are

partial to a glass or two of fizz but we must confess, we are not wine, fizz or Champagne experts by any stretch of the imagination. Being completely honest, I am not sure in a blind tasting we could really tell a Krug from a Bollinger ... and you know what, it doesn’t worry us at all. What we do love about Fizz is the whole experience; from the popping of the cork, the clinking of the glasses, the bubbles and what it all actually represents when you are drinking it... as invariably you are drinking it as a shared occasion with someone else. In fact, what it really all boils

down to for us is a really simple test - do we like it?... If the answer is yes, we’ll drink it.

If the answer is no, we’ll leave it. Simple and no more complicated than that. Just how life should be and

that’s what we want to impart to our guests. So we look forward to welcoming everyone onboard and being part of those amazing memories.
