parish tree warden, Alan Payne, on how to plant the trees, and how the trees were grafted onto suitable root-stocks the children set-to with gusto to dig holes, knock-in stakes and plant the trees. So now the young of the village can grow-up together and hopefully tell their grandchildren about the day when they planted the orchard. How nice is that! The hard workers then rewarded themselves with glasses of fizz and snacks. Let’s hope nature is kind to them all and promotes healthy growth for our new trees.

June. A date for your diary. Our Kingswear Family Fun Day. However these events do not spontaneously happen, as I am sure you will realise, and help is always needed – both on the day for running things but also for the planning and preparation. Our day is quite sophisticated in the number of things which happen –from duck racing and rowing to beer and grub, with all sorts of stalls and activities in between – so lots of cheery helpers are needed to make it all happen. If you would like to help, even in a small way, and have fun doing so, please contact Jan on 01803 752928 to let her have your details. The more people helping, of course, the easier it all is. It is important to realise that the

money raised by the event will go to local charities and Shelterbox. The last event raised close to £3,000.
