Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy

PAUL KELLY

Stuart Kearney, Account Manager, Community Pharmacy, EMIS Health and Paul Kelly MPS, recipient of Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy

The recipient of this year’s Outstanding Contribution accolade has enjoyed many of the experiences that the sector has to offer! In his time, Paul Kelly has not only been a contractor, a locum and even a wholesaler, but has also contributed to the development of the profession through various organisations, including the Ulster Chemists’ Association.

Over the years, Paul has earned a reputation for being highly professional and an astute business person, but, above all, a true gentleman: one, who encourages others to contribute and to lead, and who has had the development of the pharmacy profession at heart from the beginning.

Paul joined the register in 1969 and eventually made the transition to pharmacy contractor, building up a

strong pharmacy business with five branches in the Belfast area and providing a valuable pharmaceutical service to patients in an economically- deprived area of the city during very difficult times in Northern Ireland.

In the early 80s, Paul, along with a group of likeminded pharmacists, worked tirelessly to encourage fellow pharmacists across Northern Ireland to buy out the Belfast branch of Sangers. As a result, Sangers (NI) was set up and the wholesaler operation thrived in Northern Ireland to the benefit of all contractors.

Paul has consistently pushed for the improvement of quality of service provided by the pharmacy profession and has unflinchingly supported pharmacists to enable them to give their best. He is an exemplary pharmacist and an inspiration to others.

‘I’m delighted and absolutely astounded at being presented with such an accolade. I am particularly thrilled because I have been given an award for something that I have always loved doing’ Paul Kelly MPS

‘EMIS Health are delighted to sponsor the Pharmacy in Focus Awards. I think events like this highlight the work that community pharmacy does within the region and EMIS Health are very honoured to be able to present such a significant award to such highly- respected individual and Paul is a deserving recipient of this special merit’ Stuart Kearney, Account Manager, Emis Health
