Helping needy homes in the community
The festive holiday is a testing time of year for most families whether it is emotionally, physically or fi nancially. Since 2011 Greenaway Residential Estate Agents and the Greenaway Residential Foundation have been delivering to fi nancially challenged families everything they need to cook a two-course festive meal. Although the Foundation does charitable work throughout the year in the local community, their big effort is focused on Christmas.
As estate agency during December is
pretty quiet, MD Darren Greenaway, decided one of the ways he could help people was to provide Christmas dinners and began working with local schools and council
organisations to nominate families who they felt would benefi t from such support. In the fi rst year Darren and the team achieved just fi ve meals, however six years later a total 247 family meals were delivered in the Crawley and East Grinstead areas. In 2017 the Wishing Tree was launched
– children from the nominated families pop into one of the estate agent’s offi ces in East Grinstead or Crawley and make a wish for a present they would like to receive. The Foundation then looks for people and businesses to sponsor a child’s wish. Christmas 2018 saw 95 volunteers
from the local community, including MP Henry Smith and TV comedian Romesh
Ranganathan, take part in the initiative, while an additional donation of more £500 worth of food was also made to the Crawley Open House which houses homeless people throughout the year. • Visit
