THE GOOD FOOD GUIDE 033

CREATING A STIR in Sevenoaks

ulce’s Patisserie is creating something of a stir in Sevenoaks. Nestled in Bligh’s Meadow, its bright blue awning, smell of fresh coffee and dazzling

array of cakes and pastries were particularly welcoming on the cold day of my visit. The French-style patisserie is named after one half of its husband and wife team. Dulce (meaning ‘sweet’ in Spanish) is a Le Cordon Bleu pastry chef and, with husband Alain Chua, brings diverse experience as well as creativity and enthusiasm to the business. Since opening in May 2018, the couple have won two local business awards plus several Great Taste awards for individual items. They’re also building up a steady clientele for their events catering business.

Each item, from simple croissants to the more intricate mille feuille, is made from scratch (with lots of TLC) by Dulce and her team of chefs. The same goes for the eight varieties of quiche and the immensely popular macarons. I opted for a warm caramelised onion

tried my fi rst-ever macaron, and the salted caramel (one of six fl avours and also a Great Taste award winner) didn’t disappoint. I bought several quiches for dinner and the patisserie was buzzing with mid-morning shoppers as I left. Dulce was upstairs making macarons (food production “never stops”) while Alain and his assistant braced themselves for the lunchtime takeaway rush. I’m already looking forward to my next visit. • Open 7 days a week, Dulce’s Patisserie, 1-2 Brewery Lane, Sevenoaks TN13 1DF, call 01732 451779, Facebook: @Dulcespatisserie
