SIGNS YOU’RE

ADDICTED TO YOUR SMARTPHONE

More than half of mobile phone users will show all of these signs of serious phone addiction. What about you? There is no doubt that life without phones would be diffi cult – we need them for daily purposes including socialising, making and receiving important calls, staying in touch, and the like. However it is easy for us to get addicted to our phones, especially because smartphones these days have so much to offer. Check out our 8 signs that show you might be addicted to your phone

You have your phone in your hand 24/7. Chances are that if you are completely addicted to your phone, you will always keep it in your hand,

pocket or somewhere close to you.

Not a day goes by that you are without your phone. People who are addicted to their phones will not be able to live without it – even for

a day. If, by mistake, they leave their phones at home or in the car and realise midway during the day, then the chances are they will make it a point to go back home or to the car to fetch it.

The fi rst thing you do after waking up in the morning – and the last thing you do before going to sleep at night – is check

your phone. Keeping your phone close to, or right next to you, while you sleep can cause serious disruptions to your sleeping patterns and can increase stress levels. And let’s not forget those phone addicts who cannot resist checking their emails, Facebook or other social media platforms if they wake during the night!

You take your phone to the bathroom. If a person starts taking his/her phone to the bathroom, then he/she will

normally take longer than usual to come out, since he/she will become all too consumed with the phone. And it can be a costly exercise when it falls out of your pocket and down the loo!

You obsessively check for emails, texts and missed

calls. Phone addicts will become obsessive about missed calls, texts

and emails, checking their phones even while engrossed in other work or during important meetings.

Vacation time is more like an extended phone time. Most people would spoil their whole vacation by being on

their phones instead of spending quality time away. Seriously…there is no point of a holiday if you remain on your phone constantly – you might as well then just stay at home, at least that would save you from wasting any money.

You respond to messages or check your phone while on a date. Dates are meant to be occasions where you give your

undivided attention to the person you are with. However, with phone addicts, the situation might be a little different as they will keep checking their phones and responding to messages. Such behavior defi nitely seems rude to the other person, especially if they want to talk to you and get to know you better.

You are currently reading this article on your phone! If you are a phone addict, then chances are that you are reading this

article on your phone. Most people who are phone addicts would browse the web and do all their online related tasks on their phones instead of using their laptops or desktops.

In the wake of the 2018 Facebook scandal when it emerged that the data of 87 million private Facebook users may have been harvested without their consent, many of us – including high profi le celebrities – pondered whether it was time to sign off social media for once and for all.

CELEBRITY SIGN OFF

• BBC presenter CLAUDIA WINKLEMAN revealed she deleted her Instagram account because she was sick of people “showing off”. She said: “Instagram is simply showing off. It’s ‘Look at me!’ It’s ‘Isn’t life fantastic?’ It’s ‘I can’t believe how great I look!’” She also admitted she was failing to enjoy her own life because she was too fi xated on seeing what other people were doing.

• Singer ED SHEERAN also announced he was leaving Twitter after being trolled. He reportedly said: “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. One

comment ruins your day… that’s why I’ve come off it.”

• MEGHAN MARKLE deleted her social media before joining the royal family. The now Duchess of Sussex was a big Instagram fan and even had her own lifestyle blog The Tig.
