Prescription to Get Active: A Year in Review
Prescription to Get Active has had a tremendous 2018, and things are taking shape to make 2019 our most successful year to date.
BY LEN FRANK
The healthcare/fitness industry partnership Prescription to Get Active combats physical inactivity by partnering two sectors that have historically worked together very little: healthcare and fit- ness. Prescription to Get Active is a bridge between inactive patients who visit their doctors and community in- frastructures that can activate them. By partnering, we provide a solution for patients who receive advice to “get more active.” Patients take the ‘pre- scription to get active’ provided by their doctors to one of hundreds of fit- ness gyms and studios to try differ- ent activities and find what works for them.

Sponsorship This past year was a transition year for Prescription to Get Active. Historically, it began as a grassroots organization that relied heavily on financial assis- tance from government-funded prima- ry care networks in Alberta. After in- corporating federally in 2015, it started toward independence and financial sustainability. In 2018, several suc- cessful partnerships were developed in Alberta and Ontario. Thank you to all of our local, provincial and national sponsors, including:

Expansion into Ontario A second major 2018 event was our ex- pansion into Ontario. I would like to thank and congratulate the tremen- dous leadership in Ontario lead by Lori Longwell, Perry Tucciaronne, Maureen Hagan and many others. Their dedi- cation to bringing Prescription to Get Active to the Greater Toronto Area has resulted in unprecedented growth and expansion.
Moving forward As we move into 2019, I am optimistic that we will see continued growth in Ontario, Alberta and beyond. Thank you for your support and we look for- ward to working with more of you in the future. FBC
