Art exhibition
‘After our teachers proposed the idea of holding an art exhibition at school, we got in touch with local business Images East Anglia during the winter term. They were incredibly helpful and came to visit the teachers responsible for the art curriculum just before Christmas. They explained how the gallery would work and what input was needed, as well as the percentages of sales the school would receive. The only involvement from the
committee was the initial contact and setting up the meeting with Ruth from Images. The children’s artwork was all coordinated by the teachers and completed as part of their art topics over a couple of weeks. The Images team then framed the
completed artwork, ready to be displayed as a proper art exhibition. Each child was given a unique reference number so their artwork could be easily found among the 400 on display. We promoted the event through the
school newsletter and social media, and the Images team created flyers and posters. We also promoted the fact that the art would make a perfect gift for Mother’s Day! We held our exhibition in the school
hall during two parents evenings at the beginning of February. The event was free to attend and the profit was made from artwork sales, of which Images took a percentage. Ruth and Rob from Images stayed for both evenings, dealing with enquiries and taking
payment for any purchases the parents wanted to make. The artwork was then ready for the children to take home the following day. The exhibition needed to stay in
place over two days, which meant all children had to have a packed lunch on the second day, but it was worth it to ensure they all had the opportunity to view the artwork – it was really lovely to see how proud they all were! During the exhibition the PTA served
refreshments and also sold second- hand uniform and copies of our school cookbook. We sold over half of the artworks, raising a total of £550!’ Victoria Kirk, PTA chair, Poringland Primary School, Poringland, Norwich (373 pupils)
