Valentine’s disco

Spring into action!

Be inspired by these seasonal fundraising success stories from other PTAs

Pizza, prosecco and pampering

‘Inspired by the pizza and prosecco nights popping up across bars and restaurants, we decided to hold our fi rst in May last year. The event was funded by two main sponsors: Property Nest Estate Agents, who donated £250, and our local Italian restaurant Sant’ Angelo, who donated the pizza for us to sell on the night. We advertised on our local Facebook page for stallholders, who paid £10 plus a raffl e prize for a pitch. Tickets were £5 each, which included a glass of fi zz. Nail, refl exology and massage appointments were pre-sold for £10-£15, and when people paid they were able to select an available time slot. The event was held in the village hall, which cost £50 to hire at

a residents’ discount. We decorated the venue with silver and gold balloons and fl owers in wine bottles. We sourced alcohol by fi nding supermarket deals, and our bar had a “pimp your drink” section where people could help themselves to fresh fruit donated by the greengrocers. The event was livened up with live music from two singers, and this was covered by the hall’s music licence. We split the income with the beauticians and raised £1,631.’

‘For our Valentine-themed disco, Reception and Years 1 and 2 made decorations as part of their home learning. This made the hall look amazing with minimum spend, and the decorations were judged, with a prize given by the PTA. Our local pub donated some helium so we could blow up heart- shaped balloons. We charged £3.50 for entry to our disco, pre-booked via PTA Events, and held it in the main school hall from 5pm-7pm. Parents have to stay on site for our discos, so we offered them hot drinks for 50p and opened the disco up to siblings too.

We sold hot dogs, which we bought for 16p and sold on for £1.50, and also offered glitter tattoos for £1.50. We sold glow items for 20p-£4, and before the event we gave out sweet cone bags, which we asked parents to fi ll and return. We sold these on for £1, alongside other tuck shop items from Booker.

Two of our mums are professional face painters, so they did a free workshop to train other mums, who we can now use at our events. My biggest tip is to get a good DJ (booked well in advance) and make it a really fun event so the kids come back again and again. Our Valentine’s disco made £1,200 profi t – not bad

for a school with only 168 children!’ Emma-Jayne Smith, joint chair, Cross Farm Friends, Cross Farm Infant School, Frimley Green, Surrey (168 pupils)
