HYBRID LORRIES HELP KEEP SAS IN THE ZONE
SAS Logistics are leading the way ahead of the implementation of the first ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) in London that comes into effect in April 2019 by adding two hybrid lorries to their existing Euro6, FORS Silver compliant fleet. Commercial director James Burkimsher said:
“The UK’s first Ultra Low Emissions Zone is aimed at improving air quality in central London and will initially cover the existing congestion charge zone, before expanding to the North and South Circular roads in October 2021. “Vehicles that don’t meet the
latest emission standards will pay a daily charge each time they enter the zone, for large commercial vehicles these charges are high at £100 with even higher penalties for non-compliance. “SAS Logistics have already invested in a

Euro6 fleet and have now added two hybrid lorries that reduce CO2 emissions by around 25% when compared to a Euro5 vehicle. “We are monitoring the development of the
commercial electric vehicle market and intend to move to full electric vehicles as they become available, and the UK infrastructure develops enabling electric vehicle distribution to become a viable alternative to diesel.”

BRAND NEW DAYS FOR KNIGHTS OF OLD
The Knights of Old fleet has been joined by 10 New DAF XF 530FTG tractor units, the first DAF tractors to enter service at the group’s Kettering headquarters. They join the existing fleet of 250 trucks and 400 trailers as part of significant business investments. This significant investment is
vital to the group where the continuous renewal of vehicles has implications for road safety, worker safety and efficiency. Group fleet manager Scott
Mason said: “A major influence on any truck’s operating economy is driver behaviour, as an industry we are front-runners in driver development. We introduce new
drivers to the industry as apprentices, recruit drivers, and develop our existing drivers, all via Merlin Supply Chain Solutions, part of the Knights of Old Group. “Telematics are used to monitor
vehicle position, vehicle performance and driver behaviour. The data we collect is turned into weekly league tables across our operating branches around the country, so that all drivers can see how they are performing as individuals and operating centres.”

HAULIER’S YEAR OF GROWTH
A firm contracted by some of the leading transport haulage companies in the field has had a very busy 12 months. P Ingall Transport, based in
Rushden, has maximised its growth, raised its profile and worked hard to attract and retain the best drivers. Managing director Tracey
Jenkins said: “We’ve increased our workload with our existing customers, increased turnover by 50 per cent in six months, invested in new vehicles and taken on new drivers. “We’ve also raised our
profile by launching our new website and our Facebook page. We’ve also managed to attract and retain the best drivers too! We are a small family business and our drivers are critical to this. Without them being the reliable, efficient bunch they are we couldn’t have achieved what we have.”
