The Derbyshire Regiment (Sherwood Foresters) 4th Volunteer Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1883 - 1901, a good quality example, the blue cloth skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the crowned star pattern frontal plate with laurel overlays, a large Bath style cross with three scrolls ‘The Derbyshire Regt’, in the centre on a ground of blue enamel a Hart couchant within oak sprays, a double scroll at the bottom ‘Sherwood Foresters’ ‘4th Volunteer Battalion’, buff leather sweat band and remains of silk lining, retailed by ‘Hobson & Sons, London’, the plate not original to the helmet, very good overall condition £440-500

Fife Mounted Rifles Other Ranks Helmet c. 1870, the black patent leather skull complete with all regimental pattern fittings in white metal and brass, falling white horse hair plume with thistle pattern holder, quilted maroon silk lining, the frontal plate features the Thane of Fife on a brass cross and in turn on a four pointed white metal star, on the base point of the star ‘1X’ motto scroll below ‘Pro Aris Et Focis’ and central ‘FMR’ in brass, no chin chain, the black skull with surface crazing overall and the lining part perished
