The Manchester Regiment 2nd Volunteer Battalion Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1884-1901, a fine quality example the blue cloth skull complete with all silver plated fittings, the very fine frontal plate of crowned star pattern backplate with laurel and Garter overlays, in the centre on a ground of black velvet in gilt metal the full Achievement of Arms of the City of Manchester, a double gilt scroll below ‘The Manchester Regt. 2nd Volunteer Battn’, original buff leather sweatband with crimson linen lining, the plate is not original to the helmet but most probably is a replacement for the predecessor Rifle Volunteer pattern, very good overall condition

1st Battalion Derbyshire Rifle Volunteers Officer’s Blue Cloth Helmet c. 1880-87, a fine quality example the blue cloth skull complete with all plated fittings, the frontal plate of crowned star pattern with laurel overlays enclosing a circular strap ‘1st Battn Derbyshire Rifle Volunteers’, in the centre on a ground of black velvet a strung bugle horn, buff leather sweatband with crimson silk lining (slight stitching fault) and supplier’s label ‘Smith, Son & Brigden, Cheapside & Wardwick, Derby’, the plate is original to the helmet, small moth hole to the rear right panel otherwise very good overall condition £500-600
