competitions To widen the opportunity for young people to engage in the Sainsbury’s School Games the Curriculum competitions recognise the skills, talents and abilities of those that present, photograph, analyse or report the school sports programme in their area. The Curriculum competitions showcase the great work being done in engaging a range of different subjects to contribute to achievements across the school inspired by the school games programme. If you have a team, or an individual, passionate about their media work and actively involved in raising the profile of school sport, why not get them to send us their blog, report or photos. They could be included on the Wiltshire and Swindon School Games web site and in the next edition of the RELAY magazine!

This is Tyler Lloyd Davis from Whitesheet Primary Academy, reporting on my thrilling visit to a year 5-6 football tournament. On Wednesday 5th March ten enthusiastic football teams from around Dorset and Wilt- shire rolled in to Mere School. The team line-ups (box on left) for the tourna- ment show the keen par- ticipants from all around our local area. When I arrived I was just in time for the Pool A 1st game: Milton A vs. Wyke,

time for the Pool A 1st game: Milton A vs. Wyke, which was surprisingly even, ending up 0-0. After the game, I spoke to one of Wyke’s star players. “Absolute rubbish!,” exclaimed Harry “No-one scored.” But it was thrilling to watch, so nothing was really lost.

The next three games after that were: St. Mary’s the Virgin vs. Whitesheet, St. Mary’s M vs. Wyke and Milton vs. SMTV.

The only goals scored were from SMTV and Wyke, with one goal each. What looked to be the most exciting match was worthy Whitesheet versus the sneaky St. Mary’s Marnhull but, disappointingly, it ended in a boring 0-0. After that game I spoke to two of Whitesheet’s top players, Harry Gunter and Lucy Bowles. Firstly, I asked Harry how that match went for him. “Another ten seconds and I would have scored; I was inches away.” Lucy then informatively added, “The tournament has been great so far, the parents have been so supportive.” Towards the

by Emily Behrens, who spotted the competition and encouraged Tyler to enter. ‘Tyler is a natural journalist, always offering to contribute more to the club newsletter. We thought he could do well – but to win against such stiff competition is, for a boy of his age, an absolutely outstanding achievement. We are all so proud of him.’ His prize is to be part of the Media Team at the Wiltshire and Swindon School Games event on

2 July at Marlborough College. He will be presented with a certificate and media team t-shirt on the day and will join the other young journalists – mainly from local senior schools - covering the School Games Level 3 Competition.

Tyler’s article is below and we will be including his report from the 2 July in the next edition of RELAY in the Autumn term.

Competition Winner We are proud to announce that the winner of the first Wiltshire and Swindon School Games Journalist competition is 10-year-old Tyler Lloyd- Davis, a Year 6 pupil at Whitesheet Primary Academy in Zeals.
