School Games Level 3 Winter Competitions
Football held at Stanley Park, Chippenham on 22 Jan.
On a cold but dry day 30 teams took part in 3 football competitions. The event was well-organised, as usual, by Tony Williams from the Wiltshire Schools FA, supported by Wiltshire County FA and Young Apprentices from Abbeyfield School.
After some very close matches the eventual winners were;
Large schools - Catherine Wayte Small schools - Holt Girls competition - Dinton
Girls Basketball held at St John’s School,
Marlborough on 29 Jan.
4 schools took part - Sheldon, St Edmunds, St John’s and St Augustine’s.
The final was between Sheldon and St John’s. It was an exciting and incredibly close fought match and was a tie at full time. As always the event could not have been a success without Matt Analts and the School Games Young Leaders who helped officiate and record scores all day.
The result was decided by a golden goal which went to St John’s.
Badminton held at Tidworth Leisure Centre on 4 Feb.
20 teams and 85 athletes took part. Alongside referee John Murphy the tournament was officiated by 23 Sports Leaders.
Participating schools included:- St Edmunds, South Wilts, Warminster, Isambard, Hardenhuish, Ridgeway, Devizes, Stonehenge, St Augustine’s, Bishop Wordsworth and Kingdown. The winners went on to represent Wiltshire at a regional competition in Exeter where they had some great results.

Rugby 7s held at
Royal Wootton Bassett RFC on 25 March.
Despite the miserable weather– cold, wet and windy - the standard of rugby was good.
10 schools took part in some very close matches. The event was supported by the RFU and volunteers from RWBRFC.
The eventual winners were St Augustine’s.
Netball held at Kingdown School, Warminster 25 March.
In spite of the weather being wet and cold the athletes managed to enjoy the competition.
Wessex Blades Netball Lead Jayne Boyland and Pat and Pam from Wiltshire Netball were on hand to make sure the event ran smoothly. School Games apprentice Nicky Blood
helped out throughout the day as part of her young apprenticeship scheme.
‘Hi 5’ primary netball consisted of mixed teams from 12 schools, the U13s were girls from 9 schools and the U15s had girls representing 9 schools from across the county.
Hi 5 winners were All Cannings and runners up were Oakhurst.
U 13 winners were Sheldon and runners up were Godolphin.
U 15 winners were St Mary’s and runners up were Godolphin.
Basketball Boys Hockey held at
Isambard Community School, Swindon – 4 February
We had a day of changing weather with wonderful rainbows shining down over the competition which ran very smoothly. Andy Blackmore, England Hockey’s Relationship Manager for the South West helped organise the day and was very impressed with the standard of hockey being played.
After a hard fought competition the winners were;
Winners - Ramsbury School Runners up - Pitton School.

Thanks to Bishop Wordsworth for hosting this event and to Vince Marriott for his officiating and organisation of the competition. The games were very competitive and produced good quality play from all.
