Primary PE and Sport Premium

As all Primary schools will be aware, the Government has committed to keeping the £150m a year Primary PE and Sport Premium until 2020, carrying on the sporting legacy of the Olympics. It was announced last year as a two year initiative to run until 2015-16, but now it has been confirmed for an additional 5 years – beyond the next General Election.

The Government’s extension of the PE and Sport Premium Funding until 2020, means that at least £750m will be shared by head teachers across a five year Parliament. This funding will be ring fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Schools must spend the additional

funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

The details of the use and impact of the funding, should be displayed on all school websites and easy to view for parents and governors. Details and advice on the format and structure of the web page can be found on our website www.wiltssport.org.uk.

In addition to numerous articles, associated links and advice readily available on our website, partners such as the Youth Sport Trust have also produced a special edition of their magazine, Sporting Start, which provides a useful guide to the School Sport Premium Funding as well as school self- review tools.

Likewise, afPE have produced a number of advisory and self-help tools that are easy to access and accessible to all. These tools can help evidence how a school is spending the additional funding, what their PE and School Sport priorities are and how the funding will be used to contribute towards achieving its desired outcomes.

These tools are an excellent way to provide evidence of planned and

All schools will be notified with the relevant details. A free and comprehensive Primary School Sports Premium - Guidance booklet from WASP is currently being produced and will be distributed to all Primary schools in Wiltshire and Swindon in September 2014.
