Sportivate Spire Reds Netball
Spire Reds is the idea of Helen Glasgow and Hannah Rogers. Helen Glasgow is a Level 2 England Netball Coach that moved to Salisbury 12 months ago and Hannah Rogers is the Head of Girls games at Chafyn Grove School who moved to the area 2 years ago. Both are keen Netball players and found that access to Netball was limited within the Salisbury area with no access to the game for under 11 year olds.
The club was set up in September 2013, and now has 32 registered under 11 players and 28 under 14s. Due to high demand we have been able to introduce a waiting list for under 11s as so many want to join the club
Sportivate funding has enabled us to keep our fees down for the younger members. We run sessions where they can come and try Netball at the club for 6 weeks and see if they like what they see.
The U11s now compete once a month in the Devizes league and the

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) is supporting parks and clubs throughout the UK to throw open their doors as part of four Great British Tennis Weekends to encourage people of all ages and abilities to try tennis for free. Over the four weekends hundreds of parks and clubs up and down the country will offer free opportunities for people to get on court. It’s a great event for all the family with people able to take part in activities such as Cardio Tennis, Mini Tennis, receive tennis coaching or simply just turn up and play
under 14s are actively competing in friendly matches.
On 17 March a number of Spire Reds 11-14 year olds were selected to perform the role of ball girls for Team Bath at Bath Sports village. The girls had a wonderful evening and were able to meet the Team Bath players together with watching an extremely competitive high performing Netball Match.
Lydiard Park Academy works with several local community groups and coaches. Over the years we have managed to offer reduced rates for facilities, in exchange for extra coaching and an impact in the extracurricular timetable. This has proved particularly fruitful with the Wiltshire Wolves Basketball Club and Swindon Town Football Club.
These providers both work with our students in exchange for use of the facilities at a reduced rate. Swindon will work with G&T students, offer fitness testing and provide inspirational guest speakers. In return, we have allowed the first team and U18’s to train on the AWS during the school day. We have managed to work our curriculum well to ensure they have the time they need. The Wiltshire Wolves exchange specialist coaching, for reduced rates in the sports hall. In the past, similar things have worked with Cheerleading, Orienteering and Boxing. It is something we are keen to develop further, as these coaches offer expertise and time in a variety of different areas.
Swindon Town Academy and Lydiard Academy have continued to build links over the years, and continue to improve links and relationships with the staff to enhance our programme, with the use of the facilities. We have used Lydiard Academy for over 10 years, and it proves to be an excellent base for our Academy with its close proximity to transport links, that means it’s easier for all our 150 players to attend training during the winter season.
The 1st team have continued to enhance the links with the school, and have been able to use the facility as and when they need, and the 1st team management has publicly thanked them for their help in the media. The PE staff and other staff are all very welcoming, in accommodating any further requirements, i.e. classroom for CPD, and for match analysis. The Academy has provided in school coaching for the school teams, and assist the PE department in any way we can, through coaching, and the use of our equipment. In the future it is hoped that we can use the school to introduce our day release programme for the academy players, and this will further enhance our programme, and in turn will promote the school.
