will be hosting a range of events for you to get involved with. For younger visitors, there will
be a magical machine in the visitor centre throughout the school holidays as the Museum in a Box brings Elsecar’s heritage to life through unique artefacts. Families can get their hands
dirty in the community Milton Ironworks Excavation from Saturday 21st to Saturday 28th July. Book a free half day session and join professional archaeologists as they search for more of Elsecar’s past on Milton Forge fields. The mighty 1795 Newcomen
Engine will be roaring into action every other Sunday, giving demonstrations of the world’s oldest steam engine still in its original location on the site of Elsecar New Colliery. On Sundays 15th and 29th
July, 12th and 26th August and 9th September, peer down the engine’s shaft and take a closer look at the control room. From 3pm, there will also be guided tours of the site and surrounding areas to learn more about the history of the workshops. And of course, don’t forget the
annual village gala, Elsecar by the Sea, which will be taking place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September. This famous weekend of fun will have fairground rides, a craft fair, real ale plus trips on the heritage railway.
