OUT & ABOUT Family fun at Wortley Hall

Spend less money and

more time together

With summer firmly here, that means it won’t be long until the school holidays arrive along with endless calls of ‘I’m bored’ from the kids.

But don’t despair – Wortley

Hall have just the ticket to curing summertime boredom with their fantastic family fun day that won’t cost you the earth. Back for another year, the

annual South Yorkshire Festival is an unbelievable event hosted by Wortley Hall which sees all activities and attractions put on for free.

‘‘Your tribe won’t believe their luck that everything is free and you can save your money for the ice cream stall - or a cold one from the beer marquee’’

On Sunday 12th August,

reminisce those good old days of miners’ galas when community spirit was in abundance as the South Yorkshire Festival brings the gardens and grounds at Wortley to life. Since starting in the early 90s

from an idea by Labour MP, Richard Carborn, the festival has gone on

to be a real success, getting bigger and better with every year. This year, there are lots of things

for children of all ages to do, all free of charge. For the little ones, there will be

a soft play area out in the gardens for toddlers to play all day long. Let the kids have as many goes on the giant inflatable slide as they want. Why go to the beach when Wortley Hall are bringing the donkeys right here with trips up and down the 26 acre grounds. And the bigger kids can go to new heights as they scale the 7.3m tall climbing tower. Your tribe won’t believe their

luck that everything is free and you can save your money for the ice cream stall – or a cold one from the beer marquee. Along with the rides, there will

also be a range of gift and garden stalls to browse plus plenty of food stalls including a BBQ and fish and chips. The glorious grounds will be

alive with a mix of musical sounds as a host of local acts provide live entertainment throughout the day including Unite Brass Band and a belly dance group. As the workers’ stately

home, Wortley Hall are able to continue hosting their fantastic free event thanks to the support and sponsorship of trade unions which this year include GMB, Unite and TUC. With so much to do, you’ll be left

dumbfounded at how much fun you can have for so little spend.
