to the July/August 2018 edition of Aroundtown. Dear Reader

Welcome

s we enjoy the Mediterranean feel and bask in the glorious sunshine, we bring you our bumper sizzling edition that is hot off the press. Thanks to the overwhelming response and positive comments we regularly receive, it is so very humbling to know that we bring such pleasure to our readers who in turn are happy to share their stories with us.

In this edition, so many local support groups have turned to us to help them raise awareness of health concerns or to inform readers what services are available in the community. We have met people who are trying to spread the word that it is good to talk about their health issues; and others who have faced life-changing circumstances and are now helping others.

When one of our readers got in touch about the great work the Ethel community barge does for children and young people with additional needs, we set sail towards Tinsley Marina to see first-hand what keeps this wonderful project afloat. Run by volunteers, it was remarkable to find out that these special boat trips are all provided free of charge. Summer is a time for families and making the most of time together. Whatever the weather, we share with you some fantastic family-friendly venues here in South Yorkshire for all to enjoy. The whole country has gone football mad thanks to England’s run of form in this year’s World Cup. With Barnsley’s very own John Stones in Southgate’s squad, there is no doubt many young lads in South Yorkshire aspire to follow in his boots. And thanks to a new scholarship programme at Barnsley FC, hopefully their dreams will be realised. While we look to the future footballing generation, we also took a trip back to the glory days at Oakwell when Barnsley made it to the Premier League for the first and only time. To celebrate 20 years since this momentous occasion, a

commemorative film has been produced. We hope you all have a ball of a summer.
