Summer Drinks Summer Delights


Nothing quite says summer like a relaxed evening with a tipple or two, so here’s some new summer-style drinks for you to try on those warm, balmy nights…

he smell of a barbecue is almost synonymous with a summer’s evening.


But, let’s face it, cooking the meat is a one- person job (avoiding the stereotype, of course, that it’s a man’s domain). And while a cool beer or glass of wine can help kill time while the coals are heating and the burgers are being juggled to that spot of perfection between not cooked and burnt, there are so many other options. With that in mind, we caught up with Gill Ford from Wild Spirits of Kent, who gave us half a dozen easy and tasty cocktail treats that you can sup long into a summer’s night. Bramble Blush pairs blackberry vodka and lemonade, with a slice of lemon. A take on a popular cocktail that can also be made with gin, the lemon is key here as it


works brilliantly with the vodka and creates a refreshing drink, evoking memories of blackberry picking from hedgerows. Raspberry Spritz is seriously pink and delicious, with raspberry gin, topped up with tonic water, a mint leaf and a couple of fresh raspberries. It’s wonderful drunk on a summer’s day – and if the raspberries are frozen, that’s really an extra bonus. If the tonic water isn’t enough for you, then


the Raspberry Fizz is a step up. A real Wild Spirit favourite, the raspberry gin is again the base, but this time it’s topped up with Prosecco or sparkling wine for a drink that stays pink until the very end, and is popular at any special occasion.


If you want to bring back memories of your childhood, look no further than the


Rhubarb and Custard. Rhubarb vodka and raspberry gin go in first, followed by a gentle pouring of Advocat to create the taste of a fruit salad sweet. A strip of rhubarb skin makes a brilliant garnish too. Dam a Gin is not a negative about the


in-vogue spirit of the time, but instead another gem, with wild damson gin topped up with Prosecco or sparkling wine. You could even swap the gin for the damson vodka if that’s more your cup of tea.


And when things get a litle later, Wild Spirits’ Blackberry Whisky is the perfect finale – a scotch infused with Kentish blackberries for a sublime and sophisticated port-like flavour which warms and surprises.
