Eurocrats in Brussels have excelled themselves with the 88-page General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that has now come into effect.
Lauded as the biggest shake-up to European Union data privacy rules in 20 years, it is surely just another layer of bureaucracy that already stretched small businesses could do without.
GDPR was intended to hit the huge corporates that hold information on millions of people. But once again it is the smaller businesses and organisations that have been caught up in the mellay.
Let’s not miss the opportunity for hundreds of advisors to make a buck out of frightening you with threats of 20 million Euro fines.
The flood of recent emails clogging up my inbox, some of whom I even vaguely recall having dealt with years ago, are a plague.
Be sensible. Show you are making an effort to be compliant and no one is going to start imposing Draconian measures on hot tub retailers simply trying to communicate with customers they have built-up over decades of loyal service.
