The whole day provides a golfing challenge and a social gathering that finishes in the Club Room where so many have chatted and imbibed over the previous 120 plus years. Dinner was once again a culinary tour de force. A record number of 82 attended, enjoying the lamb main course and delightful Chilean Viognier and Pinot Noir. We were once again indebted to the


excellent service we received all day from all


the staff at Royal Liverpool


Golf Club. Their role in enhancing the experience for all members and visitors cannot be overstated. Shaun Herbert and his kitchen and bar team, the office, pro shop, green staff and all others welcomed us in splendid fashion. The wise are instructed by reason,


average minds by experience, the stupid by necessity and the brute by instinct.


at Liverpool who take advantage of the relationship with Hoylake derive as much enjoyment (if not more) from their choice of sport as any student within the Athletic Union. Their choice is indeed a wise one. Hoylake is a world class venue which provides the venue and backdrop to their season, and this annual gathering of like minded people who are still able to enjoy the course of their salad days. A long time past his own impressive


salad days, Cicero suffered the political machinations of Mark Antony following Julius Caesar’s assassination and paid with his life. Over 2000 years ago he was able to provide us with acute observations of the human psyche that resonate today. He even encapsulated that which is axiomatic to the success of this day as Hoylake is one of golf’s great gardens: If you have a garden and library you


have everything you need. This year we reconvene on Friday April
