Anuga innovations I

KBP rounds up the best innovations being showcased at this year’s Anuga exhibition.

nnovating the ice cream cone

WALTERWERK KIEL, a Germany company renowned for its wafer baking machines and ice cream cone machinery, is fully aware that its customers across the globe will soon need new their new wafer machines before the ice cream season starts. Last year, the manufacturer launched its new JUPITER A and JUPITER C series, which includes the latest tech- nologies in wafer baking and practical ideas from the customers’ side. Both of these JUPITER lines cover a high variety of oven sizes and baking plate formats. “Our customers appreciate this diver- sity very much, since they have their individual needs regarding capacity and product dimensions”, explains Markus Bartels, manager of WALTERWERK KIEL.

The first JUPITER A and C machines are now operating in the market, and WALTER customers are appreciating the technical level with the self-explanatory touch panel and the easy product change. The positive response from the market encour- ages WALTER to shift their MARS machine for moulded Monaka wafers to the higher technology as well. Bartels adds: “Anuga FoodTec is a good opportunity for us to present our new developments; in the area of snack

machines, for instance. We look forward to showing our spirit of innovation to our customers”.

Bake oven belts Sandvik Process Systems, a manufac- turer of steel belts and process systems for the food industry, will highlight its extensive range of food-related applica- tions for its carbon and stainless-steel belts, and will be demonstrating one of its conveyor units.

Sandvik carbon steel belts have been used in bake ovens for almost 100 years and continue to offer a number of advantages over other conveyor types including performance, durability and energy efficiency. Their versatility enables the production of a wide range of products – including all butter cook- ies – and a number of manufacturers have worked with Sandvik to upgrade their conveyors from mesh to solid or perforated steel belts. Bake ovens belts also represent the

largest food-related market for the com- pany, and can be produced in widths from 800 – 3500 mm. The use of wide belts enables increased productivity in existing facilities, without having to invest in expensive extensions. The thermal properties of a steel belt make it ideal for an application where temperatures can reach as high as 400ºC. The belt remains stable, provides excellent thermal conductivity for good baking performance and consistent product quality, and delivers clean prod- uct release, ensuring that high product quality standards are maintained. While initial investment costs might be higher for a solid or perforated steel belt,

overall return on investment can be very attractive.

Hall 10.1, Stand C021 Packaging transfer systems

The packaging of long-shaped products such as pretzels continues to present challenges. The weighing of these types of products is one thing, but to place the portions aligned straight in the packag- ing through a fully-automated process is another. To achieve this, MULTIPOND has developed a new transfer system with integrated robot technology. This is reportedly the world's first transfer system with integrated robot technology combined with a multihead weigher. The integrated 6-axis articu- lated arm robot, a fully-programmable arm that moves in all directions, uses its four-point tool to pick-up two lots of two portions from the multihead weigher at the same time and pack them neatly in the trays provided. This used to require a highly-complex mechanism or even manual interven- tion. A huge benefit of the MULTIPOND transfer system is its flexibility, as each of its numerous motion sequences is freely programmable.

The transfer system achieves an output of up to 60 packings per minute, and the robot integrated into the system conforms to protection class IP67. Hall 7.1, Stand C088 D089 - Anuga takes place in Cologne on
