We are delighted to be hosting a new touring display from

Remembrance Day this year is on a Sunday and marks the end of the First World War 100 years ago in 1918. With the help of the British Legion, the Dunblane Development Trust and Sue Lockwood of First Impressions, I am hoping to festoon the signpost in the middle of the Fourways Roundabout and maybe the new posts at the Station and at the bottom of the High Street with poppies, knitted poppies!

The pattern is printed below and acrylic wool can be bought from the Sue Ryder shop to which the knitted poppies can be delivered when fi nished. A 200g ball of wool would make about ten poppies!

If you could knit a few poppies, please can you hand them in by the end of June, along with your name and telephone number so that I can thank you for them. Please phone me on 01786 822 390 for any enquiries. Thank you, Heather Bovill

Pattern: Red acrylic double knitting yarn and a pair of size 9 or 3 1/4 knitting needles. Cast on 80 stitches and knit two rows then knit together along the row so that there are now 40 stitches. Repeat these three rows twice more until 5 stitches remain. Cut the wool and put the stitches on a sewing needle and pull up and stitch to form a fl ower. Knit the centre in black wool, casting on 14 stitches, knit two rows, k2tog to have 7 stitches, cut wool and pull up and stitch onto centre of fl ower. Leave a length of wool on the back so that the poppy can be sewn on to the background ribbon or fabric.
