Primary 4 - Amazing Authors! Primary 4 have developed their skills as ‘Amazing Authors’ this session through writing their very own pop up books based on the theme of ‘giving’. Children visited Dunblane library and Angela shared what makes a super story plus a variety of fantastic, fun pop up books to help us get lots of ideas!

“First we planned our story with our story mountain then we described our characters and setting. After that we wrote about our build up and problem then fixing the problem and the end. We had to use amazing VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation) to make our stories more interesting.” (Ana M)

“Once we finished writing our stories we learned how to make magical pop ups such as concertina presents, a 3D Christmas tree and cracker, different flaps, like doors or wardrobes, with writing behind them. I also had a spinning deer in my book.” (Freya C)

“We were really proud and excited about our finished books and had great fun reading and assessing each other’s with two stars and a wish. Finally we shared our books with our parents one afternoon and all our parents were very impressed with all of our creative work. We loved our books and feel it has helped us make our writing so much better. Now we want to write more of our own stories.” (Ana and Freya)

Primary 7 – Brilliant Burns Night Earlier this year P.7 welcomed 170 guests to an outstanding Burns Supper! We served them a delicious Scottish meal and entertained them with a variety of singing, instrumentalists and of course, some work by Robert Burns.

We worked incredibly hard to organise our Burns Supper enterprise event. We applied for jobs in different teams and took on many responsibilities to ensure our event was a success! We applied for a job in either the Operations Team, Production Team, Catering Team, Entertainment Team or the Sales and Promotion Team. This gave us valuable experience of applying for a job and identifying our skills. We worked in our teams to create menus, decorate the venue, calculate costs, sell tickets and programmes, organise music and entertainment. We also produced our very own book called ‘Scotland Is…’ which is filled with our scots artwork and poetry.

We all really enjoyed ourselves in the run up to the event and on the night itself! We are very proud of our hard work and our parents and invited guests had a fantastic evening!

We would also like to say a huge thank you to Elaine and Martin at Gleneagles Hotel who stepped in to support us with the resources and equipment we needed to make our hall and tables look amazing! Elaine and Martin were also able to share their expertise with us to show us how to set tables, serve our guests and make sure everyone was looked after.
