Yes we can!
As a change from the song titles of previous editions, the theme this time is based on the rallying slogan immortalised by the past-President of the USA, Barack Obama.
Rotary is a global network of 35,000 clubs bringing together 1.2 million friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people can unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. As an active part of this worldwide organisation, the Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Club, as previously reported in theWire, is involved in actions to ensure the global elimination of polio. Yes we can fulfi ll this objective by 2020. With support from Rotary Foundation, the Club has funded a midwife from Malawi to undertake a higher degree at the University of Stirling. The Club also has a series of fund-raising initiatives to support community services such as the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) and Strathcarron Hospice.
It also funds young people to participate in Euroscola, which involves a
week’s visit to the EU Parliament in Strasbourg, and the Rotary Young Leadership Awards. The Club helps to organise the local Fling, mounts a very successful Am-Am golf tournament, and participates in the Doune and Dunblane Show, and the Bridge of Allan Highland Games. An important aspect of membership of the Club is the fellowship and friendship involved in these activities and the satisfaction that comes from working together to support our various causes. Yes we can.
There are many other aspects of Rotary membership which may appeal: there is a very active group who play golf, and many enjoy curling. We also have a varied programme of entertainment and visits. Membership of the Club is not demanding: attendance can be fl exible. We welcome men and women, whether they have lived in the area for some time, or are newcomers who would like to get involved and make new friends. Yes we can make it so that the pressures of work and family commitments can be accommodated, while still allowing members to enjoy the benefi ts of their membership.
Why not visit us on social media, or better still come to one of our weekly mealtime meetings at the Westlands Hotel on a Thursday at 6.15pm. Yes we will make you most welcome. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Club Secretary, Iain Fraser at
secretary@dunblanerotary.org. Tel: 01786 822 751.
