You could take an actual ratchet—just like in a box set—and plug it into the side of this hoist and use it like a tool-box hoist of sorts.” In the years and decades that followed, Harrington


Hoists, Inc. continued to innovate and pride itself on customer service—pushing its product line ever-further into the marketplace. “Harrington sells products through qualified, local industrial distributors, rigging supply, material handling distributors, and crane builders throughout the U.S.,” added Said. “We have also created a nationwide system of certified repair centers to support service needs after the sale.” Te progression piqued the interest of KITO Corporation, as mentioned, and the acquisition in 1990 allowed Harrington to move into an even stronger


position in the marketplace. “KITO really came out of post-World War II,” Said pointed out. “Looking at what the Japanese did to re-start their industrial base—automotive was a big thing for them, and so was material handling. Te culture had been to perfect what the Americans and Germans had invented. So, in the sixties, KITO was looking for a way to get their product into the U.S. market. Tey partnered with Harrington, and ended up purchasing us, which really catapulted the relationship—because no longer were we a distributor of their product, but we started to design products with them for the U.S. market.” At the time, KITO’s technology was starting to outpace American hoist technology, so the partnership was a productive match. “Harrington has always been really good at establishing relationships with customers, so all of the sudden, we were able to add cutting-edge technology developed between Harrington and KITO to that,” highlighted Said. “Te merger also allowed us
