It is also testament to the strength of the LGH brand in the UK, Europe and North America. We already have over 200 active customers and are working on some of the UK’s largest, most high-profile infrastructure and construction projects.” LGH’s UK operation has invested
approximately £3 million in equipment from the industry’s leading suppliers of lifting and rigging gear, all of which is covered in the aforementioned Technical User Guide. Launched in April this year, the Technical User guide is available in both hard copy and digital formats; the latter is downloadable from the website. Naylor concluded: “Our trusted and
handpicked partners are innovative, market- leading manufacturers, which provide the safest and most reliable products. If a supplier meets our high standards it’s a sure sign that our customers will only be working with the best equipment. Our chosen suppliers allow us to guarantee customers safety, certainty and great service—the three pillars upon which LGH is built.” Separately, Lifting Gear Hire (LGH) has
received bronze accreditation from the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), a voluntary organization that promotes best practice for commercial vehicle operators, within a year of returning to the industry. FORS bronze, silver and gold membership
provides progressive accreditation, enabling operators to achieve exemplary levels of best practice. LGH is already making strides towards silver status, which it hopes to achieve in Q1 2018. FORS accreditation drives best practice
across the European fleet industry in terms of safety, efficiency and environmental protection. It also offers guidance and training to help operators attain the required standards. With over 4,700 members, FORS is gaining recognition as the transport industry’s go-to accreditation scheme but it is already a prerequisite for any fleet operating in the London area. Colin Naylor, managing director at LGH,
said: “Even as a new entrant, our business in and around London has grown exponentially across a number of key markets—construction; lifts and elevators; machine moves; and crane hire—and integral to delivering product to this expanding customer base in the region is our fleet of vehicles.” LGH boasts a fleet of four brand new, 1.5t
(gross vehicle weight) Ford Transit vans, based across its three UK warehouses in Manchester,

London and Aberdeen. All are fitted with tail lifts and working at height safety barriers. Phil Smith, commercial manager at LGH,
said: “FORS members stand out from the crowd, work to standards above the legal minimum and have access to a wide range of exclusive benefits that provide a real competitive advantage. This initiative is not directed at company type but simply any business delivering or operating on a customer’s site or premises.” FORS encompasses all aspects of safety,
efficiency, and environmental protection by encouraging and training fleet operators to measure, monitor and improve performance. Smith said receiving the accreditation so quickly could largely be attributed to processes LGH implemented in the days after reformation. For example, a system was put in place to capture data such as fuel efficiency and driver hours. Smith added: “FORS is very wide reaching
and covers every aspect of our vehicle fleet. We have to keep on top of regular vehicle maintenance checks; training and continuous assessment; driver health and eyesight; route planning; and accident protocol, to name just a few key criteria. FORS accreditation is just one manifestation of a safety culture that extends to every employee, customer, product and vehicle associated with the company.” y
Crane Industry Services Announces Simple Crane Operator Evaluation and Documentation Process
>To assist employers in evaluating and documenting crane operator competency, Crane Industry Services, LLC introduces a new and efficient process called Qualified Crane Operator Evaluations™ (QCOE). The process gives employers valuable insights not available in certification testing by identifying specific operator strengths and skills that need to be improved. Competency is defined as one who is capable
of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them. When it comes to crane operation that may entail familiarity with the type and configuration of the crane, hand signals, rigging, and ground conditions, among other factors. The QCOE process graphs areas where
knowledge and skill are strongest and where the operator and supervisors would benefit from more training or experience that the

> Barcelona, Spain-based automatic hook manufacturer Elebia has diversified its product range with the launch of the 5t capacity C5 Automatic Lifting Clamp, designed for working in pairs or multiples thereof to lift steel plates and other loads. The C5 boasts a 5,000kg (11,023 lb.)
capacity and a safety factor of 4:1. It weighs 19kg (41.8 lbs.) and measures 345mm x 310mm x 133mm (13.58in x 12.20in x 5.23in). It is similar in size to manual products already in the marketplace; however, the C5, named after its shape and capacity, presents a number of safety and productivity advantages to alternative solutions. The launch marks completion of an
extensive research and development program. Esteve Fornells, marketing manager at Elebia, said that regular requests for products that fit specific lifting and maneuvering requirements
employer can provide or can be obtained through a reliable source. Employers receive recommendations for improved performance and documentation for current compliance requirements. The process lowers costs and hassles associated with certification testing. Crane Industry Services travels to the
crane and operator’s location to conduct tests and documents each operator’s qualifications. “Excuses don’t work when an employer is behind on a job schedule or over budget due to skill levels that are lower than needed to complete timely, quality, safe work. QCOE also helps employers fulfill the ‘employer duty’ to provide documentation to OSHA regarding qualification of operators, but the main benefit is safer, higher quality work,” said Debbie Dickinson, CEO of CIS.
