DO IT FACE TO FACE! Construction Expo South East is back for 2018
HELP TO BUY
your fi rst home Denis Minns, chartered surveyor and property expert with Residential Development Projects LLP in Sevenoaks, shares some advice on the Government’s Help to Buy scheme and why now is the perfect time to buy.
“It seems that the Government is making genuine efforts to help fi rst-time buyers and renters secure the benefi ts of home ownership, and with the recent stamp duty cut and the Government putting another £10 billion into the Help to Buy scheme in the New Year, 2018 may well be the time for many to make their fi rst move.”
So what do fi rst-time buyers in Kent and Sussex need to know about the scheme? • The scheme provides a contribution of 20% of a house price, allowing buyers to obtain a mortgage much more affordably. This contribution is part of the equity in the property, so there is no interest to pay for the fi rst fi ve years, only the mortgage repayment is paid on 75% of the purchase price (which is often less than renters pay on similar properties) meaning the homebuyer needs just 5% of the purchase price as a deposit. • You do not have to be a first-time buyer to benefit from the scheme, however more than 80% of those using the scheme have been, often choosing new build homes. The popularity of new builds comes from, amongst other things, their inexpensive running costs and energy saving benefits (having been required to meet strict assessments to comply with building regulations). • To fi nd a property that is registered for the Help to Buy scheme, house hunters should look on developers’ own websites and local Help to Buy websites. Local estate agents may also act for developers, so be prepared to ring round to fi nd out what is available.
offering the chance to meet thousands of construction professionals in one day. And if you’re looking for just one reason why you should exhibit or attend, consider this: 87% of business directors agree it is easier to communicate face to face than on the phone or via email. For 2018 Construction Expo South East will be held on 13th September from 8.30am-4.30pm at the South of England Event Centre, Ardingly, Haywards Heath RH17 6TH.
