According to Sarah Anello, venue sales specialist for Center City District Parks, one of the best outdoor options for an event in the city of Philadelphia is its sprawling parks system.

“We have three parks available to rent for events,” says Anello. “Our largest and most popular is Dilworth Park on the west side of City Hall; John F. Collins Park, a quaint pocket park, is in the heart of the shopping district at 17th and Chestnut streets; and Sister Cities Park is located at 18th and the [Benjamin Franklin] Parkway on Logan Square, nestled between Swann Fountain and the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul.”


Dilworth Park hosts many large tented events, along with a number of aware- ness campaigns for brands and non- profits. “In the summer it has dancing fountains and a great lawn. In the win- ter, the Rothman Ice Rink and Cabin, Wintergarden Maze, and Deck the Hall Light Show is in the park. It is the coolest place in Center City for a winter party.”

Anello adds that John F. Collins is the perfect location for intimate outdoor weddings, receptions, first look or engagement parties and photo sessions. “Sister Cities Park is a popular family destination and hosts birthday parties year-round,” she explains.


Before planning an event in one of the parks, the concept must be presented in an online format that Center City District Parks provides and submits for approval, an important step for planners to ensure their event is suitable for such a unique outdoor location.


“This process helps us to check for con- flicting dates or events, determine what permits are needed, what the impact of the event will be on the park, and, ulti- mately, to determine if the event is a fit for the space,” says Anello. “The outline also helps the planner think through their event from concept to reality and determine what is necessary for its suc-
