LONDON ASSOCIATION MASTER DECORATORS

Dear LAMD Members,

I feel very honoured to be asked to take the chair of London Association of Master Decorators and I thought some of you may like to know my background. I started out as a cellulose sprayer when I was

very young and then moved on to an electrostatic sprayer. I then got a job with the local council and started as an indentured apprentice going to Tottenham College of Technology where I did my Basic and Advanced 594 city and guilds. I had the good fortune to be taught by a chap called Bill Smith who was a fantastic tutor who also introduced me to special finishes marbling, graining. I completed my indentured apprentiship in

1978 and went out into the world of work. It was 1984 and so I started as a tutor teaching City and Guilds 594 Decorating. It was at this time I was introduced to the Association of Painting Craft Teachers (APCT). In 2007 I was asked to become the APCT

President, which I enjoyed very much and tried to make a difference to our organisation and craft. In 2008 I was awarded the Freemanship to the City of London and became a member of the Worshipful Company of Painter Stainers, a very old and splendid Guild of Masters. I also became very good friends with the Scottish Association of Painting Craft Teachers (SAPCT) and found that they still teach the old values of the craft. I left teaching to pursue my specialist skills

which I have enjoyed very much. In 2014 I joined the PDA at Coventry while attending the Painting and Decorating Show, and later joined LAMD. Please try to come along to our LAMD

meetings, we have lots of interesting speakers lined up and I can promise to listen over a pint! Wishing you all a very joyous Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

I remain your servant. Chris Patmore

NORTH EAST REGION

Hello fellow Members Unfortunately, I was unable to attend this year's National Conference at

Bristol, the first one I have missed for many years. I understand it was a great success and as I write this, I am looking forward to catching up with

all the news at the AGM held at the Painting & Decorating Show at Coventry. Our final Regional meeting for this year takes place in Harrogate

on 1 December followed by Christmas lunch. This is always a great time of joy and fun and gives everyone a chance to catch up. So may I take this

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a great end to the year and make sure you have a bit of 'R and R’ over the Christmas period. I hope 2018 brings with it health and happiness and also a bit of wealth always helps!

DELIGHTFUL DONATION

AT THE RECENT MSW Regional AGM in September, Andrew Bullock of Graco kindly donated a hand held cordless sprayer for a charity raffle prize during the evening. A whopping £300 was raised by all those in the room. Traditionally, the President nominates a charity

for each event, and this year it was The Lighthouse Centre. It is a local registered charity close to Ian’s heart, as they provide palliative treatments to cancer sufferers in their own home. Typically these patients cannot even leave their home due to health complications and are therefore somewhat restricted in treatments they can receive. All the wonderful ladies who are part of The

Lighthouse Centre and do home visits are all qualified nurses who already work full-time within the NHS and provide the charity’s care treatments in their own time after the full-on ordeals of every day frontline life in the NHS. So a big PDA THANK YOU to Andrew and Graco
