Getting to know a Club League Rider

Emily Scott

My name is Emily Scott, I’m 14 years old and I live in Northumberland. My horse is called China and she is l5hh, a Clydesdale cross and she has a passion for jumping, although not so much for dressage.

We love to compete at Lane Farm Equestrian and Alnwick Ford Equestrian, as both have a friendly atmosphere and lovely people. We have been competing at heights of 70cm and 80cm but we are looking to progress to 90cm and eventually 1 metre because I know China has the scope, we just need to build her confidence. China grew up in a herd on a hill, was broken in late and we think is about 9 years old now. Despite this she has the kindest temperament I have ever known. She is perfect to take to Pony Club events, to hunt or to complete. She still occasionally has ‘baby moments’ where she panics a little but we have been together for almost a year now and we are learning to overcome

these episodes. We like competing in the Club Leagues because when we attend, people are always very friendly and it makes the day so much more enjoyable and fun. These events also provide amazing opportunities to compete in the British Showjumping National Championships at Stoneleigh. China and I recently attended this Championships show to take part in the Club League final, where we achieved a win in the 70cm class. We were both quite astonished but incredibly pleased at this result and China was clearly very excited and satisfied with herself as she completed her lap of honour laden in rosettes, sashes and a new emblazoned rug. It is a day and experience neither of us will forget. It was such a big event and being able to compete and jump alongside professionals has left me with memories I shall always treasure. We are hoping to improve on our dressage in future with a view to improving our prospects

at eventing competitions. We recently competed at BE80 and had great success in the jumping phases but our poor dressage let us down and prevented us from achieving higher placings.

I would like to thank my mum for taking me to all the events and training sessions. You are a terrific groom and I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I hope I make you proud!
