TO DO:  Review last year’s successes to establish which events make it onto the shortlist for this year.  Agree dates for your main events and circulate ‘save-the-date’ notifi cations to parents.  It’s never too early to start enlisting support for the Christmas fair – set up a sub-committee to get the ball rolling. TO DO:  Are you planning a Christmas card fundraiser? Children’s artwork will need to be produced soon, so speak to teachers if this is being done in class, or arrange an afternoon of creativity after school and seek volunteers and donations of art materials. Turn to p49 for tips and advice.  If you haven’t already set up a recycling scheme for your school, then fi nd a textile recycling company and book a collection for the new year (pta.co.uk/suppliers). EVENTS: October is National Pizza Month; Diwali (19 Oct); National Baking Week (16-22 Oct)


November


TO DO:  24 November is Black Friday, when lots of people will be snapping up bargains. Promote your online-shopping fundraising schemes to parents, and benefi t from all those Christmas purchases.  Consult our Christmas Fair Countdown feature to check you’re on track (pta.co.uk/fairs).  End-of-term discos are always popular – send letters home asking for confi rmation of attendance, payment and to request volunteers. TO DO:  Start planning leavers’ events and gifts. If you want to provide a yearbook then research suppliers at pta.co.uk/suppliers. You will need to gather photos, quotes and anecdotes from teachers and pupils, so allow plenty of time for this.  Hold a pamper and shopping evening to treat mums and grandmothers in the run up to Mothering Sunday. TO DO:  Plan a recruitment drive to fi ll the shoes of anyone who might be stepping down in the next six months. TO DO:  If the school is running a taster session for children joining in September, make sure your PTA is there to answer any questions. Provide fl yers outlining what you do and how new parents can get involved. Request contact details!  Promote any name-label fundraising schemes you run to both new and existing parents.  If you haven’t already, start a ‘freeze-pop Fridays’ fundraiser!
