L baby et’s go

Here’s what you’ll need for the perfect packing list: • Nappies (just take enough for the journey). You can always buy what you need at the other end

• Swim nappies • Baby wipes • Nappy cream • Plastic nappy sacks • Sterilising fluid and plastic container, or sterilising bag

Your first holiday with your darling baby may seem nerve-wracking, but by bringing along the essentials and taking a few precautions, there’s no reason why you can’t have a fabulous – and restful – time!

If you're planning your first vacation with a baby or toddler, then you may be anxious about the journey, the weather, the water, the food…let’s face it, any number of things…but there’s no reason why you can’t have a great time with junior in tow. Let’s face it – bar the few essentials, the most important thing to them is you!

Feeding If you’re breastfeeding, there’s no need to worry about sterilising bottles, and you’ll also be protecting your baby from the risk of dysentery, typhoid or stomach problems from local water or food. If you’re bottle feeding, then you’ll be pleased to hear that many

countries now sell pre-made formula, as well as nappies and wipes, all of which are designed to make life easier. Older babies who are eating puréed fruit and veg can largely stick to

their normal diet regardless of whether you’re staying in a hostel, self- catering cottage or chalet.

Vaccinations Many parents tend to stick to Europe for holidays with babies and young children because this kind of holiday is less likely to require vaccinations, which are not recommended for young babies. If you’re in any doubt, your GP will be able to advise you.

• Waterproof changing bag • Cellular blankets for shade and warmth • Cloth or plastic bibs • Breast pump • Bottles • Portable bottle warmer • Clothes – loads of them! • Sun hat, umbrella and sun tent for the beach • High factor sun cream designed for young babies • Sling or light-weight buggy that’s easily manoeuvrable

• Travel cot • Insect net • High chair or booster seat • Clip-on reading light • Toys – soft toy, books, fold-down baby gym • Baby monitor • Plastic blow and spoons • Car seat – if you’re taking your own car • Baby’s passport – if you’re leaving the country!

First aid ‘Be prepared’ is the Boy Scout motto that’s perfect for the first time you travel with your baby. That’s why a first aid kit is one of your ‘must haves’! For the best first aid kit you’ll need: • A thermometer • Liquid paracetamol or ibuprofen for babies • First aid spray for sings or insect bites • Tweezers • Insect repellent • Calamine lotion • Cold pack • Plasters (cotton and plastic) • Anti-diarrhoea medicine
