Upton & Lytchett Carnival 2017

Well it’s that time of year again for the Upton and Lytchett Carnival and plans are well on the way to make it the best ever.

This year the Art and Music Festival is tying in with the Carnival to make it a fun-fi lled fortnight embracing the whole community, young and old, with lots going on to give the town a carnival makeover.

Children are busy making bunting and features for the garden, so if you have the time please join in. We have new murals going up involving community groups, along with our Upton Infant and Junior Schools making a special feature for the community garden.

We are joining Waypoints Care Home on Wednesday 5th July for an afternoon of music and refreshments, where we can mingle with the residents in their home with local artists entertaining everyone.

The penultimate event is on Saturday 8th July in the Community Centre and St Dunstans Church, where the Art and Musical Festival is being held. Our local artists are busy preparing for the art exhibition, which continues to grow and our own local musicians will be performing in the church with refreshments available throughout the day.

Then it’s the big one, the fi nale of this year’s hard work and the end of the Community Arts Festival, with the Grand Carnival Procession from 1pm on Saturday 15th July. This is our sixth year and it continues to grow in both size and popularity. We are very fortunate that here in Upton the community groups,

The Upton and Lytchett Minster Carnival Saturday 15th July 2017

churches, schools, families and performers come together to put on a great procession – with entertainment and various

stalls and stands for all ages at the recreation ground afterwards.

Brought to you by The Beacon Association

The programme will be available shortly and is again only £1 with lots of local information, photographs and local adverts and some discounts. Please buy a programme to support and enable next year’s Carnival.

Carnival is only possible because of a small handful of volunteers and the events they hold throughout the year to fund it. We are always looking for new ideas and people to join us.

Look out for our posters throughout the town and local magazines for information.

The Carnival committee is pleased to announce that we have chosen to support two local support groups with funds donated during the Carnival procession this year, they are Huntington’s disease and Motor Neurone disease as both of these awful diseases have affected families in our community recently.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has supported us and our events throughout the year. To fi nd out more, visit: Website: uptonandlytchett.org Facebook: Lytchett Minster and Upton Carnival Email: carnival@uptonandlytchett.org
