Caring Kelly Moves Up Diverse Abilities Ladder overseeing all staff and

Kelly Crocker, age 22, works at Diverse Abilities and has successfully moved up the career ladder at the Dorset disability charity.

Local girl Kelly has worked for the charity for two years and was promoted just after a year. She started as a child support worker, but quickly progressed to a lead support.

As part of her lead support role, she works across the Children’s Team, who ensure all the children supported have an enjoyable childhood while enabling them to enhance and build our lifelong goal to help families cope with the pressures they face caring for a child with lifetime disabilities. Services provided as part of the team include, supporting children at the charity’s respite home, holiday activity sessions and support in the home or out in the community.

When at the respite home, Lily’s Place, Kelly looks after six to eight children and their families, managing paperwork, care plans and medication, plus ensures everyone is happy. She also line manages up to fi ve child support workers and runs shifts or sessions,

children being supported. Kelly said: “I am very

lucky to have progressed so quickly at Diverse

Abilities. The new role was a great step up the career ladder and a chance to have a greater insight and impact on children we support. I would defi nitely recommend working in the Children’s Team. The roles provide a variety of tasks, whereby every day is different and so much fun. I enjoy empowering children to engage in activities and making Lily’s Place a fun place to stay.”

The local charity is looking for more caring and enthusiastic people to join its team to support children with disabilities at the respite home during the day and overnight. The role would also include working across other children’s services, including home support and weekend/holiday clubs. Diverse Abilities also supports adults with disabilities and has roles available in its supported living team.
