The Liverpool- born photographer’s fi rst big breakthrough into the “Rock and Roll” press came when helping his friends, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, get their fi rst record together. Today his work includes a diverse range of stars such as Catherine Zeta-Jones, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Neeson and Jeremy Irons. Now living in Whitstable, John will be showing many of these photographs at Light and Imagination in Whitstable High Street, owned by photographers Andreea and Matt, who fi rst met John through mutual friends. “We love John’s work,” says

A giant fi sh created by Canterbury College students, and saved by a #savethefi sh Twitter campaign, helped celebrate the recent Children’s Art Week at Turner Contemporary. After travelling to Margate by truck, schoolchildren decorated the fi sh with hundreds of brightly coloured paper plates whilst learning about recycling, marine conservation and the impact of dumping rubbish in our oceans. Jenny Scott, Education Offi cer, said: “The students designed and

delivered a fantastic sea-themed workshop. I was so impressed with how wonderful the students were with the children.”

Uprising: Young people

igniting change in the arts What will the arts look like in 25 years’ time? Is imagination more important than knowledge? These are just some of the questions being debated at UPrising. Join TV’s Billie JD Porter (BBC3, Channel 4, Vice) at a one-day festival event focusing on the biggest challenges facing young people. Audience members will meet with creative industry professionals and artists to challenge ideas and ignite change in the arts. Speakers include Darren Henley (Chief Executive, Arts Council England), writer and poet Dean Atta, MC and rapper Envy – and there will be participation in animation, music, rap and dance workshops. ART31 Awards for young people will also be presented. • Tickets, which include lunch, dinner and access to all sessions and performances, are £50 for over 25s, free for under 25s. Visit www.art31.co.uk or call 01227 769075.
