UK FIRST FOR TAITTINGER
Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger, President of Champagne
Taittinger, made English Sparkling Wine history when he planted his first vines in Taittinger’s new Domaine Evremond vineyard in Chilham – the first Grande Marque Champagne House to plant vines in the UK.
Pierre-Emmanuel was joined by his wife Claire, daughter, Vitalie, and representatives from Taittinger’s UK agency and partner Hatch Mansfield, to plant the first of 20 hectares of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines at the new estate. Champagne Taittinger acquired the Kent farmland in autumn 2015, announcing the launch of Domaine Evremond that December. The initial planting to bring the Domaine Evremond vineyard to life took place in May, with plans to plant a total of 40 hectares over the next two to three years. The first English Sparkling wine from
Domaine Evremond should be released for drinking in 2023, after three years of ageing in bottle. • Visit

GURKHA MEMORIAL FUND DINNER
The Gurkha Memorial Fund held its first-ever memorial charity dinner evening for its future projects and as a celebration of Gurkha 200 years’ service to the Crown. The sell-out dinner, held at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone, was attended by many dignitaries, as well as people from the Nepalese community and serving officers, who enjoyed a curry supper with entertainment, including dancing by pupils of Folkestone Girls Grammar and music from the Military Wives Choir. The evening included a presentation of the current
project which is raising funds for a computer technology suite at the Kakarbhitta Higher Secondary School. • If you wish to donate, please send a cheque, made payable to the Gurkha Memorial Fund, to 82 Ashley Avenue, Folkestone CT19 4PJ or donate online at Folkestone Gurkha Memorial Fund (sort code 52-41-42, account number 47201290).
