The Scottish Rock Garden Club Summer Event: “Flowers of the Hills and Mountains”

in the Victoria Hall on Saturday 19th August from 10am till 4pm.

The event celebrates the SRGC the wide range of plants which members grow illustrating the beauty, diversity and garden worthiness of a wonderful range of rock garden and woodland garden plants, bulbs, shrubs and trees. Some exhibits will shown be in pots and others as cut fl owers in containers. Members from all over Scotland and Northern England will bring exhibits. It is a display, not a competition.

At least four top specialist nurseries will attend, selling a huge range of plants suitable for growing in Scottish gardens. They are, our local specialists, Rumbling Bridge Nursery, Ardfearn Nursery from Inverness, Kevock Plants from Lasswade and Hartside Nursery from Alston in Cumbria. Kevock’s exhibit st this year’s Chelsea fl ower show was awarded a Gold Medal. All regularly win top awards at fl ower shows round the country including at Gardening Scotland.

There will be talks at 11am and at 2pm in the Christian Fellowship Hall. Our guest speaker is Kenton J. Seth of Paintbrush Gardens, Grand Junction, Colorado, USA. Kenton is a plant hunter, expert in the fl owers of the Great Plains, Rocky Mointains and the arid lands of western USA. Many of the plants which grow there make good garden plants in Scotland. He is also a practical garden designer specialising in Crevice Rock Gardens. Kenton will talk on “American Crevice Gardens” and on “Plant hunting in the Wild West”.

Free Entry to the show and display £1.50 for each talk.
