Martin Slumbers, Tim Mitchell (Beaconhurst Head Golf Coach) and Thomas Preston & Kerr Fletcher (members of the Golf Development Squad) BEACONHURST OPENS ITS

NEW GOLF HUB! I started playing golf with Tim our coach 3 years ago and I feel like I have been on quite a journey. Not only has my golf come on in leaps and bounds and I am now playing in competitions across the country ( I am also doing better than my Dad with my drives!) but working with Tim has seen me approach my golf in a way that combines fun and great experiences with a better understanding of wider aspects of the game.

We all have individualised records to show what we are doing, our goals and how we have improved. Three years ago there were only 6 of us doing golf and we practised indoors in bad weather or the winter in the sports hall but now there are 46 pupils from Junior to Senior school and we have our own brand new Beaconhurst Golf Hub which is a pretty cool state of the art indoor facility where we can use Skytracks to simulate golf courses across the world and practise our golf.

The Golf Hub is something that I have been involved with from the start – we have been fundraising for 3 years and working together to get the best layout possible by recreating the set up over and over again in the sports hall. This is great as it now means we have our own dedicated space which supports the golf programme. We were involved in everything from the layout to the internal spec and also we have designed our own golf balls and came up with the name! Last Friday was amazing when Martin Slumbers the Chief Executive of the R&A came to open the golf hub and brought along the Claret Jug! We all felt very proud of our eff orts.
