Rowing brilliance.... Race & World Record holder Elaine Hopley!

Rowing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2016; holding the Race Record and a World Record for the Fastest Solo Female in the Open Class, (59 days 19 hours and 14 minutes) is causing quite a stir....

It seems that being one of only 14 women IN THE WORLD, to row an ocean SOLO, successfully, is inspiring our young people and Elaine has been busy visiting our local schools to ensure that it does just that.

It would seem though that our children are rather more

curious about how she managed her every day ... erm ... habits. Her most asked question: how did she go to the loo? Well, these practicalities are essential after all! (and in a builders bucket, should you be interested...)

The rest of her top 10 questions are: 2. Where did you sleep? In a big cabin at the front of the boat. 3. How did you know where you were? GPS Global Position System. 4. What did you eat? Expedition freeze dried food (not especially nice!) 5. What was the scariest moment.? The Tropical storms and the lightening. 6. What was the best moment? Crossing the finish line and getting a Guinness World Record and Race record. 7. What wildlife did you see? Humpback whales, Minkie Whales, Atlantic spotted dolphins. 8. What did you miss the most? My family and my cat. 9. What food did you crave? REAL food. 10. What was the first food you ate in land? Fresh fruit.

Read more about this amazing experience on Elaine’s website (www.eh-oceanrow.com). In addition to realising a goal and dream of a life time, she is also raising vital funds and awareness for Alzheimer Scotland. You can donate to this cause through Just Giving on her web page.
