Members of the Bridge of Allan and Dunblane Rotary Club join with Interactors (young Rotarians) from Queen Victoria School for an evening of fun and games.

“The times they are a-changing .........”

Though written by Bob Dylan in 1963, this song has been covered by singers and groups as diverse Simon and Garfunkle, Billy Joel, The Beach Boys, Bryan Ferry, and Bruce Springsteen over a period of more than forty years. It is as relevant now as it was when it was fi rst written. No wonder that Bob Dylan is now a Nobel Laureate.

Times are certainly changing now, not just technologically, but also socially and culturally as well. Elections come, and elections go. Not everyone is convinced by the manifestos, and only rarely are they impressed by the leaders.

Times they are also a-changing at the Rotary Club of Bridge of Allan and Dunblane. On the 1st July the Club will welcome a new President, George Morrison. He is one of the youngest Presidents in the Club’s history, and he has already stated that he wants to make changes that he is confi dent will alter the general public’s perception of Rotary.

George has been a member of the Club for nine years. He joined the club when he was in his mid- thirties and building his well-known garden centre and contracting business.

He wants to stress that Rotary is not dominated by old men in suits, who hold reactionary ideals. Today’s Rotary movement is very much for public-spirited individuals, be they male or female, who want to associate with like-minded individuals to have fun and friendship, but also to give something back to local, national, and international deserving causes.

Few members of the public are aware of the scale of the Rotary Movement. There are over 35,000 Clubs, with in excess of 1.2 million members throughout the world. Together with the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation Rotary has managed to inoculate over 2.5 Billion children against polio – truly an amazing achievement

Come and join us, you will be most welcome. Meetings of the Rotary Club are held at the Westlands Hotel, Doune Road, at 6.00 for 6-30pm. Anyone interested in attending should contact the Club Secretary, Iain Fraser at secretary@dunblanerotary.org. Tel: 01786 822751. More information can be found on the Club website: www.dunblanerotary.org.uk or the Facebook site: www.facebook.com/dunblanerotary.
