THE BEST NEW MUSIC COMING STRAIGHT OUTTA NORWICH brought to you by

AUDIOLINE

MOONLANDS It’s been a good year for Moonlands. An EP release,

gaining fans and rave reviews. Now singer Lucy Elliott tells us it’s time to take it to the next stage.

WHO? We have to admit we’ve been fans of Lucy since her days with Norwich teen band The Lidi Berlins. That voice - so different right from the off. With new band Moonlands, sensitivity and maturity are layered onto everything that was good back then to make a compelling package of music that hits the mark at the highest level.

So, rewind. Lucy becomes Brighton student, meets Joel Frosh and form We Spies. Band splits. Lucy and Joel stay together, now in London and joined by the other Joel and latterly Buster and Ayumi. Release EP Paradise Blue. Sign to Foof Records. Release second EP Moonlands Jan 2017.

WHAT? Some acts pile in full-on from the start, get everything out there as soon as possible, afraid they will miss their moment. It’s been different for Moonlands. Building individual careers has meant being

patient with their music. It’s given them time, though, to learn about what they each bring to the band. The crispness of Joel’s guitar and Lucy’s distinct vocals, the harmonies, the recently added keys. Together they have created a warm melodic sound, both thoughtful and tuneful. “There are strong pop elements and always will be,” said Lucy, “but we want to develop and try other things too.” Moonlands have the ability to be full-on anthem makers or drop it down a tone and show an extra sensitivity in Lucy’s vocal range from the days when she was smashing out full on indie-punk.

LIVE? Attracting attention, that’s for sure, and getting a good audience reaction. Moonlands have featured in lots of blogs, even getting mentioned on a French website and an American podcast. The shows have been around London so far, and being with Foof records, Lucy told us has really helped get them in with

promoters. “People don’t always see the hard work that goes into creating the music, the writing, the craſting of songs, the support from labels and people around.”

FUTURE?

Well, a gig in Norwich for a start! But beyond that the exciting thing is all of them want to put more time into the band. For her part, Lucy has bags packed and is ready to head to Norwich for a career break and develop her music. Beyond that – a new EP on the horizon and more gigs around the UK.

Catch Moonlands with BBC Introducing in Norfolk on Saturday 8th July in the bandstand, Chapelfield Gardens, Norwich as part of the Lord Mayor’s Celebration.
