MOTORCYCLE TEAM AT KICKBACK SHOW Update

n the weekend of 29-30th October five members of the Motorcycle Team manned a stand at the Kickback Motorcycle Show at Olympia to promote Brooklands. The opportunity was provided by Zoe Cano, the motorcycling adventurer and author who shared a space with the BTM at the Brooklands Motorcycle Show in July.

Martin Gegg led the venture and took the famous Cotton-JAP, which attracted a lot of attention. Also on show was Perry Barwick’s immaculate Triumph ‘Thunderbird’. Tony Baxter took his (slightly stripped down) side-valve Triumph as part of a competition for visitors to design a custom bike. Entrants were invited to take a copy of an outline drawing (with a clear Brooklands logo) and to complete it with their custom idea.

After a successful display at the Cranleigh Classic Car Show the crew-bus was taken for an MoT test. It passed with advisories for the bodywork, which requires a certain amount of attention. We were aware of this and will be working to get the repairs completed as soon as possible.
Lagonda and MG M-type
These cars have been little used in the last 12 months and after a check over and run around the Museum, both were presented for MoT tests and passed.
61 Although the exhibition was relatively small,
there was a steady stream of visitors to the Brooklands stand and the numbers gave us time to engage with each one rather than just hand out leaflets. The amount of interest and goodwill generated made the weekend worthwhile. All the visitors to whom we spoke lived within easy reach of Brooklands and quite a few stated a clear intention to make a visit.
The Motorcycle Team has no more outreach visits on the immediate horizon, but Tony Baxter is busily making arrangements for another invasion of Montlhéry for Vintage Revival 2017 and the rest of the Team are discussing next year’s programme of promotional visits to other track events.
