MEMBERS’ MATTERS
Winter Draw We have been busy in the office dealing with all the raffle tickets coming back in for the Winter Draw. As I write this, in November, we are already just below the £10,000 mark, so a big thank you to all those members who have taken part. By the time you read this the draw will have taken place and all the winners contacted individually. It has been great that so many extra donations have come in as well and nearly a quarter of our total has been received that way. The last two draws have been in aid of the Scoreboard project for which the BTM is aiming to raise £60,000. Proceeds of our regular fund-raising through talks, outreach and tours have also been going towards the Scoreboard, which should be in place to accompany the opening of the Brooklands Aircraft Factory in the restored and relocated Wellington Hangar towards the end of summer 2017. If you wish to make a further donation towards the project, then please contact the BTM office or donate by using the button on the new Brooklands website.
New website There, I have mentioned it now, the new website. It has been a major project for the Museum, Concorde and BTM teams and it is now live. If you use our URL of
www.brooklandsmembers
.co.uk you will be able to go directly to our section of the new site. It is formatted to work on PCs, tablets and mobiles through a browser so you can check it for information on the go. It will remain a central repository for all things BTM with a latest news section as well as event reviews, videos, upcoming BTM events, a BTM blog for more general chit chat, links to photo galleries, membership details and everything you need to know about the BTM in one place. As it is part of the overall Brooklands website you can also access information on the Museum, including the collections and historic information, the Concorde Experience and Museum/BTM Shop just by clicking one of the four coloured tabs at the top of every page – we are yellow by the way! Hopefully you will find it easier to navigate than the old site as everything is in boxes!
Membership
Membership is still on a plateau at around 5,750, with just over 10,000 cardholders, but Christmas is almost with us and I’m sure there will be plenty of membership gifts bought as usual this year. In

the post-Christmas blues period you might want to mention to your friends and family that Brooklands is a great place to visit and a membership is an economical way to keep com- ing back for what will be an exciting year with the culmination of the Brooklands Aircraft Factory and Race Track Revival Project – and the unveil- ing of the BTM-funded Scoreboard mentioned above. Look out for the first key date of 17th June, on the Double Twelve weekend, when the restored Finishing Straight will be re-opened with a parade of cars to emulate the original opening ceremony exactly 110 years ago to the day.
New Year’s Day New Year’s Day is looking set to be another fantastic event and we will have a special members’ entry point as we did in 2016. While building work is going on there is less space on the Finishing Straight, so the Museum is restricting entry on site this year to classic cars, motorcycles and commercial vehicles registered before 31st July 1987 (D-registration prefix) ie at least 30 years old. Vehicle clubs who pre-book and pre-pay for their tickets will also be parked on the Museum site and there are no age restrictions for such club displays. Members arriving in pre-1987 classic vehicles (or as part of pre-booked car clubs) should enter over the Vickers Bridge (via Mercedes-Benz World) and you will be directed to a members’ parking area. Do not enter via the Campbell Gate unless you wish to join the mammoth queue!
Although there is an age restriction for vehicles coming on site, everyone is still welcome to attend in any age of vehicle, with parking in The Heights and other overflow parking areas, which will be sign-posted. For those arriving on foot from The Heights we will have a Fast Track entrance available by the Shop. Please have your membership card ready so we can get you in as quickly as possible. The Members’ Bar and Bluebird Room will be open for Club level members and guests only, and the Napier Room (with a bar) will be open for all members and the public, with additional food outlets by the Pratts’ Pagoda, in the Motoring Village and in the Vickers Suite. Hopefully the weather will be good again and I wish you all a great day. Gates open at 9.00am.
