CLASSIC VEHICLES AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

News

HRH Prince Michael of Kent (centre) takes a keen interest in the AC Zagato as the BTM’s Angela Hume looks on.

ver £19 million of British classic vehicles lined-up on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace on Saturday 15th October to help commemorate the 90th birthday of HM The Queen. They were inspected, on her behalf, by HRH Prince Michael of Kent.

O Each of the 90 vehicles was manufactured in a

different year of her life and represented that year. The first was a 1926 ‘Bullnose’ Morris Oxford tourer, the last an impressive 2016 Ford Focus RS. Brooklands was well represented by Angela Hume, who took the Brooklands Cars’ AC Zagato to represent the year 2011, and by the London Bus Museum whose 1952 AEC Regent 111 London double-decker bus completed a 12,000-mile tour of the USA and

Canada in 1952 as a promotion for British goods and tourism.

Among the many other superb machines on

display, was a 1948 Jaguar XK120 – the most famous competition Jaguar of all time, registration NUB 120; a 1959 Morris Mini-Minor – the first- ever Mini off the production line; the fantastic hybrid McLaren P1 and the beautiful 2016 Jaguar F-PACE. Also displayed were three London taxis, four sports-racing cars, three police cars, as well as various models of Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Bentley, DeLorean, Jensen, Lea-Francis, McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Wolseley and many more. The line-up was made possible by the goodwill and enthusiasm of all the owners who travelled from all over the UK – and three from Europe – to be present.
