THE VC10 HAYNESMANUAL

News

T

o coincide with the recent publication of the latest Haynes Manual, covering the VC10, author Keith Wilson occupied a space out- side the Clubhouse at Military Vehicles Day on Sunday 20th November, offering to sign copies for visitors. Supporting the occasion were three of the volunteers who look after the VC10 ZA150 at Dunsfold – Bob Cooper, Paul Robinson and Paul Sternberg. A photographer from local paper, the Woking News and Mail, was on hand and took a group shot in the cockpit of the Sultan of Oman’s VC10.

FAREWELL TO ANNE

nne Gifford, and her husband Raymond, who died some years ago, must have raised thousands of pounds for Brooklands over many years. Anne was very proud to be a member of the Brooklands Trust Members’ Committee and attended meetings whenever possible. She was also a founder member of BTM Outreach and would appear at distant locations and in all weather conditions. She enjoyed being part of the team as much as we enjoyed and appreciated her company. Anne sadly died recently, there was a large

congregation at her funeral and many Museum staff and volunteers attended. On Saturday 22nd October members of the Outreach Team were invited by Anne’s friends to be at the scattering of her ashes in the Memorial Garden at the Museum. 10 ‘Outreachers’ were there for the simple, yet moving, ceremony. There is now a plaque on the wall for Anne, next to Raymond’s, with the words, ‘A dedicated and Loyal Volunteer’ also mentioning

Left to right: Paul Sternberg, Keith Wilson, Paul Robinson and Bob Cooper (Bob Holmes). Keith Wilson is an air-to-air photographer and

aerospace journalist and the hardback book details all the Vickers/BAC marks and models from 1962 to 2013, including the Museum’s VC10s. With over 200 illustrations throughout the 160 pages this is a remarkable piece of work and the VC10 is the first ‘classic’ civil jet airliner to receive the Haynes Manual treatment. Signed copies of the book are now available from the Museum Shop or on-line at the special offer price of £20 (RRP £22.99).
