Iguana – whilst the Nuvola by Centro Stilo Alfa Romeo represents the 1990s.
8C 2900B is the ultimate Alfa Romeo. More sublime Touring-bodied Alfas.
The visual pleasures don’t end here and facing you as you move down to the next level is the sublime 8C 2900B Lungo again by Touring. Probably the ultimate super-car of the 1930s, only 30 2900Bs were built, 10 in long chassis form. Adjacent are three other Touring-bodied cars representing the period pre and post World War Two. This level also includes a zone showing excerpts from films that featured Alfa Romeos. The Graduate is the obvious choice, but a Duetto Spyder driven by Kirk Douglas also appears in a scene in which he is trapped in a series of tunnels sandwiched between huge trucks. Looking anxious, are they trying to kill him or is he thinking of committing suicide? The footage ends without us finding the answer. Then there is Michael Caine driving a Montreal in the south of France, together with a brunette in a Porsche 911 Targa – a mixture of car chase and auto flirting. Does Maurice Micklewhite get the girl? Probably, but you need to see The Marseilles Contract in full to find out.
Racing
Many will consider the remaining two levels the highlight of their museum visit as this area
celebrates Alfa Romeo’s fabulous motor racing history. The first of these carries a lights and music show with images of legendary drivers such as Nuvolari acting as a back drop to the great grand
A variety of competition cars led by a 1938 Le Mans entry.
