Around Kingswear
Family Fun Day Those of you who are avid readers of ‘Around Kingswear ‘ will be aware that a Family Fun Day is planned for sunday september 11th to take place on Jubilee Park. Arrangements are now almost complete and we can give you more information which should entice you and your family and friends to join in with what will hopefully be a very special event. Proceedings will start around 10.30 with a fascinating display of classic and vintage cars. These will be on show until 12.30 pm when they will make a procession around the village. The Dog show will then take place from 1.30 when your 4 legged friends will be the stars of the show with lots of classes in which they can shine!
The ducks will be released at 12 noon and will make a dash with the tide from the railway bridge to the pontoon with all proceeds going to Rowcroft . They will be on sale at £1 In the village shop, Post office , The ship and on the Marina so please be generous.
A relaxed family day out would not be complete if lots of catering has to be considered so we have organised some lovely food outlets to take the hassle out of your day. Ian Fenton will be roasting a hog, Holly and David Jones of Manna from Devon will be producing delectable delights in their wood fired oven and the WI will run one of their famous cake stalls. Dartmouth Ice Cream Company will supply your desserts and of course there will be a well stocked bar. All you need to do is bring your
folding chairs or a picnic rug! All throughout the day there will be activities and entertainment... We have an owl Display, Lez the Fez will surprise and delight us with his magic tricks and balloon dexterity, a Bubble Disco, loads of games, crafts and face painting for the children and a variety of stalls for retail therapy - many of them new to Kingswear. And for the gamblers amongst you we have snail Racing - not to be missed! The Rowing Club will supply taster rows and there will be a coracle challenge!
For the energetic and competitive there will be a tug of war and the proceedings will wind up around 4pm with the now infamous eggathon.
The festivities will continue into the evening when Colin Lang has promised a party in The ship with live music and of course ... FooD! The weather will not defeat us this year ... the Village Halls are booked in case of adverse conditions. so if you feel this is an event not to be missed and you would like to be involved we would love to hear from you.
We really need volunteers to help on the day. We also need donations of tombola and raffle prizes, books and sponsorship pledges. If you can help please contact Jan Trevorrow on 752928 to discuss volunteering opportunities, Penny Bainbridge on 882187 who will arrange collection of your contributions or Sam Furneaux on 752899 who is organising the tombola so let us all work together to make this day truly memorable. We look forward to hearing from you

Neighbourhood Plan Two meetings have been held over the past couple of weeks, one in the village hall and the other by kind courtesy of Graham and Kay sowerby at Raddicombe Lodge, Hill Head. Both meetings were well attended and many ideas have been shared for the future of the village. It is really good to see people entering in to the ownership of what happens to the village, and a positive thing to be able to formulate a plan for planning purposes and to defend against unwanted development, and of course support needed and wanted development. Thanks are due to eileen Parkes and her team for the hard work which has been put in to the meetings and their publicity. This is a long process but well begun. Well done chapesses!
The Playground In the parish council meeting of July 11th, final discussions about the children’s playground to be built in Jubilee Park took place. It has now been moved forward to the point where the ordering of the equipment and its installation can now go forward with immediate effect.
Shiny New Clerk I am delighted to announce that our parish council has appointed a new clerk, David edwards (pictured over), with whom we are looking forward to working in the coming months and years. Here David introduces himself very clearly, “I write to introduce myself as the newly appointed Clerk to Kingswear Parish Council.
